District Nowshera (Project 2022.0398)

Background

District of Nowshera was one of the worst affected districts of Khyber Pakhtoonkha (KPK). The project was implemented in 5 villages of district Nowshera. This district is a disaster prone area and vulnerable to natural disasters. Rain, floods have become regular phenomenon during the monsoon season every year.

Most of the families are small farmers. Small farmers in Pakistan comprise at least three fourth of the total population of farmers to dominate the agricultural sector. The disaster threat is always there as the areas are closer to the river and are hit by flood. The soil has either excess of water or no water at all. The whole agriculture cycle is disturbed and poverty is increased.
The land, the vegetation, the livelihoods and biodiversity were the main victims and among them were the most vulnerable groups such as women, children and elderly. The poverty among women increased rapidly.
